Asterisk How to create a nightly routine

Are you struggling to get everything done? Do you find yourself wishing you could start better habits? Starting with a small routine can really help to reach these goals. Here is a great way to start…

Start by making a list of the following:

  • What do you wish you could do more consistently?
  • What time frame do you want to spend to accomplish these goals? Do you only have 30 minutes a night? –  I spend WAY too many hours watching Netflix, then I say things like “I don’t have any time to get things done”.  The reality is I am dedicating my time to Netflix instead of to projects and routines I want to complete. So what amount of Netflix time and I willing to give up to accomplish these tasks?

Now start by doing one thing at a time, try not to make it too overwhelming to begin. For example, I want to take better care of my skin, practice my hand lettering, and memory journal more often. I will start by just doing my skin care routine every night for two weeks. Once that is a habit and I do not have to think about it too much it’s time to add on something new. By taking it slow I don’t feel anxiety about having a long list of things to accomplish before bed.

Keep track of your habits in a notebook, planner, or your phone. I like to set alarms on my phone. This is really helpful reminder to stop what I am doing and take 5 minutes to do my routine.

Think about how this routine will benefit you and write yourself a little note that encourages you to keep at it. I like to post these on my bathroom mirror from time to time.

Just remember if at anytime this routine becomes a burden or an added stress, change it up. There should not be any guilt about changing or revamping a routine that is not working for you. Every month I reevaluate my routine and change it depending on what is going on for that month. Just be flexible and understanding with yourself.

What things do you plan for your nightly routine? Leave a comment below and let me know.

-XOXO, Heather
